Moisture management is not only about how fast a fabric absorbs a drop of water. For sportswear, it is also important to know whether liquid moves away from the skin and whether it comes back when pressure is applied.

What Is Strike-Through?

Strike-through describes how quickly liquid passes from the skin-facing surface into or through the fabric structure. Faster transfer can help reduce the amount of liquid remaining directly against the body.

What Is Rewet?

Rewet measures how much moisture transfers back toward the skin side after pressure is applied. A fabric may move liquid quickly but still feel wet if a large amount returns.

Why Both Tests Matter

  • Strike-through evaluates outward liquid movement.
  • Rewet evaluates liquid return.
  • Together they give a better picture of perceived wetness.

What Changes Performance?

Yarn type, knit structure, capillary channels, hydrophilic finishes, fabric thickness and wash durability all influence liquid transport.

Buyer Check

Test new and washed samples. A moisture-management finish may perform well initially but change after repeated laundering.

Final Thought

Good performance fabric should not only accept sweat quickly; it should keep that moisture moving away from the skin with minimal rewet.
